Brunswick Heritage Museum
For over 30 years, the three-story Brunswick Heritage Museum has preserved the history of our town. Known during the Civil War as Berlin, this small town along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was incorporated as Brunswick in 1890. Learn about our town built by the B&O, see a 1,700 square foot HO Scale model railroad that shows the B&O Metropolitan Subdivision that began at the west end of Brunswick’s rail yard, and ran eastward through Montgomery County communities all the way to Union Station in Washington D.C.
C&O Canal NHP Visitor Center
The C&O Canal was a lifeline for communities along its path, as coal, lumber, and agricultural products floated down the waterway to market. Construction began in 1828 and reached Brunswick (then known as “Berlin”) in 1834. The Canal operated until it was destroyed by flooding in 1924. Today its Towpath endures as a way to discover historical, natural, and recreational treasures.
