The 11th Annual “Great Deadman’s Down Hill Run” will take place on Saturday June 9th. This event is co-sponsored by Brunswick Main Street and The Brunswick Area Recreation Council (BARC). The downhill run will probably be the fastest mile you will ever run. The course is a point to point route and is a 90% down hill grade with the best reward possible at the finish line, a made on the spot ice cream sundae!
Registration for the run opens at 3:30 pm in Square Corner Park on Potomac Street in downtown Brunswick. Runners can jump on the BARC hay wagon and get a fun ride up to the start of the run. Runners will be transported from the park to the top of Deadman’s Hill, the corner of 9th Ave and 10th Ave, just above the city park building area.
All runners will be given their time at the finish near Square Corner Park and then they will be treated to a delicious ice cream sundae in the park along with some other snacks, drinks and music. Ice cream is being donated by “The Little Red Barn” ice cream shop. The cost of the event is very reasonable at $5 for youth, $6 for teens and $7 for adults. All proceeds will support Main Street’s efforts to revitalize downtown and BARC recreation events. Plenty of parking is available in the MARC train station area. After the event, you can stroll the downtown area or take a short hike on the historic C & O Canal.
